• Scrutiny:
  • Carmichael, 2009, When Walsh described the species, he did not mention to which genus this species belong to other than it was a scale. (Coccidous gall.) Some authors erroneously, believed that Walsh placed the species into Pemphigus, which he believed to be a aphid. However, as the sentence reads, Walsh is only stating that Fitch placed caryaevenae into Pemphigus.
  • Carmichael, 2009, Type information as given in the original publication. There is no specific mention of a type or types. He describes a gall, as being the size and shape of cabbage seed, on Pignut Hickory [Caryae glabra]. Later, in the foot notes there is a note about the females having one segmented tarsi and laying eggs. Collect in July by Walsh.
