  • Carmichael, 2009, He says that Chermes viridis, Ch. coccineus, Ch. laricis, Ch. obtectus, Ch. strobi, and Ch. pini, may all be one species, if so then it should be called Chermes coniferarum. Of the species listed above Chermes pini is the oldest. The name for the union of all of these species should have been Chermes pini. Therefor Chermes coniferarum is an unjustified replacement name.
