  • Favret, 2012, Geoffroy 1762 cites Linnaeus (1746) "Chermes pini" but uses the trinomial "Psylla lanata pini". Goeze 1778 refers to Geoffroy and gives it the name "Chermes pini". Finally, many authors credit the name to Macquart's 1819 Kermes pini, who in fact refers to both Geoffroy and Linneaus. As the Geoffroy name is suppressed (Hemming 1954), priority belongs to Chermes pini Goeze 1778 over Kermes pini Macquart 1819.
  • Favret, 2021, Pineus pini (Goeze) is the unisexual species related to the bisexual P. orientalis (Dreyfus).
